The Science Behind Zestt Breathe+

The Science Behind Zestt Breathe+

At Zestt, we don’t formulate based on trends.
We formulate based on our knowledge of physiology, plant biology and chemistry and how all of this interacts. We sure as hell don’t know everything, but we never stop learning and questioning.

We also develop our products based on life's experiences. Darcy’s chronic lung disease was the driver behind the two of us working together to find a solution for respiratory inflammation and illness.

In this eblog, I want to expand more on the science behind the Zestt Breathe+ lozenges. Please let me know if you would like to read our full science notes and I will send them to you.

Zestt Breathe+ was designed as a multi-pathway respiratory support formulation combining:

  • New Zealand blackcurrants (rich in anthocyanins)
  • Quercetin
  • Zinc
  • BLIS K12™ oral probiotic

Each ingredient plays a specific role.

1️⃣ Supporting Healthy Airway Inflammation

When the lungs are irritated, the immune system can overreact and create swelling and excess mucus.

Anthocyanins have been shown in preclinical models to:

  • Calm inflammation
  • Reduce mucus overproduction
  • Support fibrolytic M2 macrophages (the body’s natural repair cells) to repair lung tissue

When inflammation settles and mucus reduces, people describe that feeling as:

“My chest feels clearer.”
“I can breathe deeper.”
“The wheeze just went.”

2️⃣ Modulating Immune Signalling

Quercetin is one of the most researched plant compounds in the world. It helps calm excessive inflammatory signals and supports the body’s antiviral defence.

Zinc works alongside it, helping the immune system respond appropriately — not too little, not too much.

Importantly, zinc deficiency is associated with impaired immune responses and increased severity of respiratory infections.

This combination supports a balanced immune defence.

3️⃣ Supporting the Oral–Lung Immune Axis

Zestt Breathe+ also contains BLIS K12™, a well-studied probiotic strain (Streptococcus salivarius K12) shown to:

  • Inhibit pathogens in the oral and throat cavity
  • Reduce respiratory tract infection incidence
  • Help settle inflammation in the throat and upper airways

In one study among frontline medical staff, the use of BLIS K12 oral probiotics was associated with a 64.8% reduction in respiratory tract infections.

Supporting the oral microbiome matters because the mouth and throat are the gateway to the lungs.

4️⃣ Why a Lozenge?

Interestingly, the lungs are one of the first organs to receive nutrients absorbed from the digestive system. That means lung tissue gets early exposure to beneficial plant compounds.

Using a lozenge:

  • Allows prolonged contact with oral immune tissues
  • Supports probiotic colonisation
  • Delivers polyphenols and zinc into the blood system quickly

This multi-layered approach is intentional.

Real Lives. Real Impact.

Irene, a 62-year-old great-grandmother with lifelong asthma, told us that after starting Zestt Breathe+, her breathing improved “out of sight.” She went from struggling with everyday tasks to mowing her lawn “against the clock.”

Another customer shared:

“I haven’t had a doctor’s visit for my COPD since taking it.”

And one lifelong smoker said:

“20 minutes after the first dose… WOW! I could breathe easier, and the wheezing just went.”

We don’t claim miracles.

But we do believe in research, testing and the integrity of our bioactive ingredients.

When you calm inflammation, reduce oxidative stress and support immune defence, the body responds.

If You’re Tired of Just Managing Your Lungs

You shouldn’t have to:

  • Sleep sitting up
  • Avoid exercise
  • Feel embarrassed coughing in public
  • Accept that “this is just how it is now”

If you’re ready to support your lungs from multiple angles, inflammation, immune modulation, microbiome balance and tissue repair, Zestt Breathe+ was designed for exactly that.
